Australian Turia Pitt, 24, had a promising life with a successful career, a partner, and beauty. Everything changed on September 2, 2011, when she was nearly killed in a fire during a 100-kilometer race organized by RacingThePlanet. Despite the event’s risks, safety precautions were overlooked, and Turia, along with others, was engulfed in flames.

She chose to run through the fire, suffering third-degree burns over 65% of her body. Before the accident, Turia was a model and mining engineer, happily dating her high school classmate, Michael. The ordeal left her questioning why she survived as she spent 864 days in the hospital and underwent over 200 procedures, including the amputation of five fingers and reconstructive surgery on her face.

Though her injuries healed, she struggled with self-image and stayed home, fearing judgment. Turia credits her recovery to the unwavering support of Michael and her family. In 2015, he proposed to her in the Maldives with the same ring, symbolizing their enduring love.
