Claire’s engagement night takes an unexpected turn when she receives a mysterious warning from her fiancé’s ex-wife. The unexpected call fills Claire with unsettling questions, and as she delves deeper, she uncovers secrets that make her question everything she thought she knew about the man she loves. Will Claire’s life ever be the same again?
I couldn’t believe it.
Brandon knelt in our living room, holding a sparkling ring. “Claire,” he said, his voice soft but clear, “will you marry me?”
Tears filled my eyes as I nodded eagerly. “Yes, Brandon! Yes!” I exclaimed, feeling my heart swell with happiness.
He slipped the ring onto my finger, and I pulled him up into a tight hug. We both laughed and cried, overwhelmed with joy.
After a few moments, Brandon pulled back slightly and looked into my eyes. “Claire,” he began, “there’s something I need to talk about.”
I felt a small pang of worry but nodded for him to continue.
“You know I’ve been married before,” he said. “And you know I’ve always refrained from talking about her or introducing you to her. My ex-wife… she was troubled. It’s a part of my life I’d rather leave in the past. I hope you understand.”
I could see the pain in his eyes, and I reached out to hold his hand. “I understand, Brandon. We don’t have to talk about it if you don’t want to.”
He smiled, relief washing over his face. “Thank you, Claire. I want us to focus on our future together.”
“Absolutely,” I agreed. “This is our fresh start.”
We spent the rest of the evening talking about our plans, dreaming about our wedding day, and imagining our future together.
“Let’s share the news,” I said, pulling out my phone. Brandon watched with a grin as I typed out a post on Facebook: “I said YES! Excited to spend my life with the most wonderful man, Brandon!”
As soon as I posted it, the likes and comments started flooding in. Our friends and family were thrilled for us, and their joy only added to our own.
“Look at all these messages,” I said, showing Brandon the screen. “Everyone’s so happy for us.”
He chuckled. “Of course they are. You’re amazing, Claire.”
I felt my cheeks flush. “No, we’re amazing.”
